No, Please Not Another ‘Next Bond’ Article!

I am so sorry! Not only is this our 3rd article in the past year about the possible choices to replace Daniel Craig as James Bond, but we are getting bombarded lately from all sides with similar write-ups. I myself am getting tired of reading basically the same article, with the same list of contenders, over and over again! If you read one, you read them all. Are journalists copying each other now?

Then there is the fan casting, like by scatronixx …this is not how things work! You find an actor that fits the role, not the other way around. The character of James Bond, that Ian Fleming created, is a white British male. Just because of all that talk about “white washing” in Hollywood, we don’t have to use political correctness in casting. Aside from the fact that Idris Elba is too old, if you want a black agent, why not do a spin-off with a black 006? If you want a female spy, why not revamp ‘Emma Peel’, or cast a woman as 004? That way everybody is happy. But let James be James, not Jane.

There were some funny reactions to ‘Jane Bond’ on Twitter. One guy suggested that in exchange for a female Bond we should re-think some female characters as well. He has a valid point, sounds only fair to me. So how about a ‘Cinderfella’? Other suggestions were ‘Sleeping Beau’, ‘Pocahoncho” or ‘Mark Poppins’. Our kids will be so confused! I have no issues with casting gays, lesbians, transgender actors, or any other color of that rainbow, as long as they play their characters true to their original story. Don’t mess with my childhood memories!

Then there are jokes and rumors like Theo James being confirmed as the next James Bond. That article originated from a site that added the disclaimer:” All stories on this site are satire and the opinions expressed do not belong to any real people.” I guess nobody bothered to read to the very end?

I think Vanity Fair is correct in saying the next Bond will not be who you expect, according to an interview with Sam Mendes who directed the last two James Bond movies, and is exiting the franchise. For example Tom Hiddleston is a great actor, but too charming and boyish, he does not have that “dangerous” vibe. I love Henry Cavill, but James Bond can’t be confused on screen with Superman. Tom Hardy is a bit too rough around the edges. Jamie Bell would have to wear elevator shoes, or have very petite Bond girls, as he is only 5’7″short.”Kinky Boots” anybody? Again, Idris Elba is not only too old with 44, since most 00-agents retire at age 45, he also has his own franchise “The Dark Tower”, and James Bond is not a man of color.

It will be entirely up to Barbara Broccoli to select her next agent. It might be a fresh and new face, or an up-and-coming actor, who is just starting to get more and more name recognition, like Luke Evans. I just can’t imagine anybody who is already too well known as another character, or too closely linked to another franchise.

In any case, if they cast a woman or Mickey Mouse as the next Bond, it might really be the ‘Last Bond’!

Fan’s Voices On Social Media And Their Impact On Selecting The Next James Bond

We have written before about the importance of an actor’s visibility on Social Media. If equally qualified actors compete for the same role, a studio might pick the one that is more active, talked about and followed on Social Media.
We also speculated about the next James Bond in a previous article. But there have been some interesting new developments lately. Entertainment Weekly correctly writes “Somehow it’s become unofficial law that Idris Elba’s name must be a part of any conversation about who would be the next best James Bond.”
So when Anthony Horowitz, the author of a new James Bond novel, said in an interview that Idris Elba is “too street” he caused an outrage and quickly apologized on Twitter.

Elba appeared on several TV shows and gave interviews, but denied that there was any truth to the rumors after the ‘Sony Leak’.

Then the British GQ Magazine started their James Bond weeks in time for the premiere of the new 007 movie ‘SPECTRE’ with articles about the Bonds of the past, the cars, the style and they announced a James Bond poll!

For one week fans could vote for one of eight candidates or write in their own choice in a comment box. Apparently the name Luke Evans must have come up often enough because he was added to a list of ten contenders in a pre-round. By the end of that round the two with the least votes were eliminated and the remaining eight paired up.

The Luke Evans fandoms were happy! He made it from not being on the list into the top four! But how would he do matched up against a strong contender like Idris Elba? GQ predicted a win by a “white Persian cat’s whisker” for Luke Evans, calling it the tie of the round! But with the strong support of his fans Mr. Evans beat Mr. Elba with the healthy margin of 63 percent!

During that first round some tweets suspected foul play when fans realized that the voting link for all candidates had the name of Idris Elba embedded. So everytime somebody shared their voting result using the link from GQ Magazine, it would show up under Elba’s mentions, which seemed an unfair advantage. But at the beginning of round 2 it became obvious that the complaints had been noticed when the remaining four semifinalists were introduced by GQ Magazine as shown:

Now we have four contenders left competing for the next James Bond’s tuxedo. So far Henry Cavill has a clear lead over Aidan Turner and Luke Evans left Tom Hardy in the dust with a surprising 86 percent thanks to his fans voting, tweeting and supporting him.

Today we heard that another big name threw his support behind Luke Evans. Vin Diesel says as quoted by Digital Spy that his “Fast & Furious co-star Luke Evans should play James Bond.” Considering that Vin stood together with Luke in front of cameras in an action movie he would know what his co-star is capable of, and with a fan base of 100 million on Social Media his support means a lot. Maybe Sony Pictures already picked their next Bond actor, but even if they did, they must have taken notice how many people are talking and tweeting about Luke Evans.

This is what I personally love about Social Media. You can take a stand, engage yourself and all our voices together really do matter and can make a difference.

Henry Cavill. What can we say about this man that you are not going to like? Apparently at one point he was so heartbroken that he wasn’t eating and a sandwich — now known as “the Henry sandwich” helped him to move on.

We don’t know which relationship he’s talking about in this insightful interview brought to us by Inquirer. As far as we know Henry has had two serious relationships in recent years.

He was engaged to equestrian star, Ellen Whitaker — whom he broke-up from as his career was taking off — and dated WWE fighter and actress Gina Carano on and off for a while. But Henry Cavill says the toughest thing he’s ever had to do is walk away from someone he loves — yes, he uses the present tense, so we assume he still does.

“I think the bravest thing that I have done is that I have told someone, ‘I don’t think we should be together in a relationship.’ In spite of the fact that I love her, I think it was wrong and knowing how much it (telling her) was going to hurt her. Because that really sucks and it really hurts.”

“Months later, I looked back and went ‘yeah, you did the right thing.’ That was good.”

His comments paint Henry Cavill as a man with strong principles, who was brought up to act on his conscience and it couldn’t be more attractive to his adoring fans. The man is already adored by millions and as his career takes him to the next level of stardom, he still says his biggest influences are those people closer to him and not comic book heroes.

“Ethics are very important. I try to be as ethical as I possibly can. Integrity is vital to me and who and what I am is based upon that. I know there is only one thing I can take with me when I am on my deathbed and that’s my integrity. I can’t take my money. I can’t take houses or boats or my wife or my kids.”

Henry Cavill has been extremely busy filming, first the blockbuster Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice — which opens on March 25, 2016 — and the spy revival — The Man From U.N.C.L.E. — coming to theaters on August 14. He also graces the covers of several magazines including, Empire Magazine, Men’s Health, and Men’s Fitness.

But it appears Henry is not letting fame get to his head, which is not easy considering the position in which he currently finds himself. After all he is the Man of Steel.

So how did Henry Cavill deal with that heartbreak, which he calls the toughest moment in his life? Well, he says it was hard, but he was able to move on — it appears he really isn’t over it — with a little help from his friends…and a sandwich.

“My hardest time—goodness—isn’t heartbreak always the hardest time no matter what you do?. So yeah, I had my heart broken and had my best friends look after me after a bad heartbreak. I wasn’t being particularly bad. I was just being morose and heartbroken.”

“To see the joy on my friends’ faces when I finally ate a sandwich, which was remarkable because I wasn’t eating. My friend’s wife made this particular sandwich which I ate. Just to see them so happy taught me a lot. They now call it the Henry Sandwich.”

So what was so remarkable about that particular sandwich. Nothing really. Henry Cavill says it had “slow-cooked pork with banana peppers in a soft roll. That simple.” This is great stuff, isn’t it?

New ‘Batman V Superman’ Photos And Plot Details Released [Spoilers]

Today has been a good day for Batman v Superman fans with the release of new photos and more details about the secretive plot.

The amazing photos come courtesy of Entertainment Weekly. The spread — included in its latest issue coming out Friday — shows never before images of the main characters.

The new Batman v Superman photos show Ben Affleck in his role of Bruce Wayne and Gal Gadot, who plays Wonder Woman, dancing at a fancy party. This is maybe part of the footage shot at that big filming day at the University of Michigan last summer.

We also got a new image of Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor, Henry Cavill as Superman, and Ben Affleck in his Batsuit.

All of these images are great, but perhaps the best of them is the one that gives fans a taste of what will happen when Batman and Superman face-off for the first time in Batman v Superman.

Check out the cover that will come to newsstands all over the country when EW is released Friday and it promises behind-the-scenes Batman v Superman details we haven’t heard before.

In the interviews included with the special issue, director Zack Snyder talks about Kryptonite and confirms that indeed it will make an appearance as part of the Batman v Superman plot. Batman will use it to confront and try to destroy a Superman the world now sees as a threat.

Snyder said he thought of introducing the popular weapon at the end of Man of Steel, but obviously that didn’t happen. Additionally, both Affleck and Cavill talk about their roles in Batman v Superman.

“He’s on the verge of being swallowed up by the anger and the rage that we see haunt this character in the other manifestations of it,” says Affleck, who plays a much older version of Batman. “But this guy is further down the line and has become more embittered and cynical.”

For his part, Henry Cavill explains how the tables have changed for his Superman in Batman v Superman, according to Comic Book Movie.

“I like to think that Man of Steel was the perspective of the world from Clark, Kal-El, looking at the world and trying to exist with in it. Batman v Superman is definitely more mankind’s perspective of Superman.”

If you are wondering why Henry Cavill’s Superman doesn’t just squash Ben Affleck’s Batman in Batman v Superman, period, you’re not alone. This is a burning question fans have not been able to get the answer to until today.

The lovely Henry Cavill was at the London Collections: Men in London this past weekend, checking all the latest fashions. During the event, he took some questions from the press regarding this very topic.

We have all seen the amazing Batsuit and Batmobile Ben Affleck will use in Batman v Superman and they are impressive, even more so than those Christian Bale wore for The Dark Knight Trilogy. Bigger and better seems to be the theme with the latest superhero movies and Zack Snyder is making sure his characters will leave a lasting impression.

But how on Earth will Batman avoid being killed by one swipe of Superman’s hand? How fierce will their rivalry really be?

Earlier this year, Henry Cavill touched on the subject very briefly, when JoBlo asked the question?

“Well, if Superman is Superman, which he is, he wouldn’t,” Cavill said at the time. “And therein lies your answer.”

Reading between the lines, it’s quite simple really. Even though Superman has more than enough power to obliterate Batman, he will not because it’s not in his nature. He is a pacifist and we all saw how much it took for Superman to finally get rid of General Zod in that epic, controversial battle.

Even though it would be easy for Superman to really hurt Batman and possibly kill him, the Kryptonite is not a violent person whatsoever. On the contrary, Superman avoids conflict and walks away rather than getting in a fight.

This past weekend Henry Cavill expanded on this topic and got us a little inside his Superman’s motivations in Batman v Superman.

“Superman wouldn’t get into a cage fight with just anyone. Imagine, you wouldn’t get into a fight with someone if they hit you and you didn’t feel it, barely registered it. Superman wouldn’t even notice; he’s not quick to engage.”

As we impatiently await more promo material to dissect, as well as cast interviews to give us more details about what we can expect when Batman v Superman finally arrives in theaters, we thank Henry Cavill for throwing us a much needed bone concerning his character.

“I need a Hero!”- We all need more Superheroes!

We were writing in an earlier article how CGI is making a lot of Marvel’s Superheroes possible, and that we are looking forward to seeing those in movie theaters soon.
Lately there has been a lot of criticism of Superhero movies, and lets face it, none of those will ever be nominated for any award!
Deadline just published this article about the “loser geeks” at San Diego Comic-Con.

Umberto Gonzalez, who can be found on Twitter at @elmaimbe, wrote June 1st this article for Heroic Hollywood asking for it to be shared with everybody who loves Superheroes!

He made a good point about why we needed Heroes, they inspire us and are great role models for kids and adults. Please check out the video of Zachary Frost a young, talented filmmaker, that he shared.

Avengers: Age of Ultron came out May 1st, next is Jurassic World with Chris Pratt. The Marvel movie Ant-Man will premiere July 17th in the U.S. The plot is about con-man Scott Lang who has to embrace his inner hero armed in a super suit with the amazing ability to shrink in size but increase in strength, to save the world. It stars among others Evangeline Lily, who we just saw in The Hobbit BOFA.

Who Should Play James Bond Next?

The question of who should play James Bond next is a burning one for fans of the spy franchise and without even knowing which studio will get the distribution rights, it’s one that at this point has no definitive answer. However, this doesn’t mean we can’t talk about it and imagine our favorite actor following in Daniel Craig’s footsteps.

As with anybody who has been cast as the suave 007, there will be controversy. Craig himself was not a popular choice with fans or previous James Bond’s, he was “too blonde” and “too old” for the role, however, he has proven his critics wrong and made the last three installments the most successful at the box office. Skyfall received several award nominations.

Now let’s take a look at who on Earth could replace the current James Bond, Daniel Craig. Almost all of them have expressed interest in the role (for good reason).

HENRY CAVILL

Of all the possible candidates, Henry Cavill was the one who has come closer to actually playing James Bond. In 2005 — when he was only 22 — he auditioned for the role, which he describes as “really painful” and almost landed the part.

However, studio executives thought he was too young at the time and the role went to Daniel Craig. Ten-years-later he is at the perfect age (32) and has a legion of fans who would love to see him play 007, but can this reconcile with his superhero image?

Henry is certainly fit enough and has the looks to play Bond. He even got a taste of playing a spy in his upcoming film The Man From U.N.C.L.E.. We wouldn’t complain if Henry Cavill was cast as James Bond.

RICHARD ARMITAGE

This is an interesting possibility. Tall, dark, brooding, and such a fantastic actor. Richard Armitage is also the correct age and his credentials — while not of the blockbuster nature — speak for themselves. A theater trained actor, he recently blew audiences away in the stage production of The Crucible.

His best known role on the silver screen is that of Thorin Oakenshield, the leader of the dwarves in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy and oh, what a performance. Armitage is widely admired, not only by legions of adoring fans, but peers and directors as well for his work ethics and with reason. The deep, velvety voice doesn’t hurt either.

Richard Armitage, 43, is certainly at the right age and has the good looks and intensity to play James Bond. He has proven that he can carry a movie and is used to playing action roles. We will be able to admire his skills when he appears as the serial killer The Tooth Fairy/Red Dragon in NBC’s Hannibal. Oh and he also starred in Spooks as MI-5 agent Lucas North.

LUKE EVANS

Another interesting prospect, Luke Evans has expressed interest in the role of James Bond and is also used to playing very physical roles, which amount to the majority of his growing resume. Luke also came from theater, though in a different genre. Musical theater is his background and boy he can sing.

Singing is not required to play James Bond, but Luke Evans should be in any list of possible candidates. An actor who has proven he can undertake any role, and is ruggedly handsome (plus has that awesome Welsh accent) he specifically said that he would love the challenge of playing 007, while praising what Daniel Craig has done for the franchise.

“I think that’s a really good role. Daniel Craig has turned that role into something very special and as an actor of my age that would be a really great thing and I think the world needs a Welsh James Bond.”

In real life, Luke Evans is the epitome of fashion and can be seen at various events looking very dapper, which can easily be translated to the big screen.

TOM HIDDLESTON

We mostly know him as the villain Loki, from Thor and Avengers, but Tom Hiddleston is so much more than a baddie. Though many think he would be an excellent Bond villain, he also has the looks and talent to play the man himself.

He is British, which in our opinion is the basic requirement and he can act. Like the previous candidates, he comes from theater and has appeared in anything from superhero movies to Shakespearean characters with ease. Even though he’s a bit young, like Cavill, by the time the next James Bond movie is ready to go under production he would be ripe for the role.

JASON STATHAM

This action star cannot be discounted when talking about the next James Bond and Jason Statham recently expressed his interest in playing 007 when Daniel Craig retires. He “enthusiastically” told the Guardian that if he was ever offered the gig he would be up for it.

“Could I do it? Abso-f**king-lutely,” he said. “Would I do it? Abso-f**king-lutely.”

Statham also thinks that Daniel Craig has brought new energy to the role, but said that if he was cast as James Bond he would take on the Ian Fleming character in a “different” way.

“Yeah, I’d make a decent Bond,” Statham said. “But it’d be very, very different if I did it.”

MATTHEW MACFADYEN

Mr. Darcy as James Bond? Not a bad possibility and according to the handsome Brit, he was approached by studio executives about playing 007.

“”Yes, they might have. I don’t know about Bond. It’s a weird one, isn’t it? It’s a bit camp. It would change your life.”

There are few that do brooding better than Matthew Macfadyen and he certainly has what it takes, although he’s not known for undertaking particularly physical roles. However, he has the talent and given the motivation Macfadyen could play the most famous spy of all time. Earlier in his career he starred as Tom Quinn — the original MI-5 agent — in the very popular spy series, Spooks, where he incidentally met his wife, Keeley Hawes.

Unfortunately, for fans, so far it doesn’t seem like Matthew Macfadyen is interested in having his life turned upside down by becoming James Bond, but never say never. Macfadyen is the personification of tall, dark, and broody on the big screen if not so in real life and we will have to wait and see if he can be convinced.

CHRISTIAN BALE

Another Welsh would could very well take on the iconic role of James Bond, Christian Bale is a proven actor, and while not the handsome type, as many of those already listed, he has more than enough credentials to follow in Daniel Craig’s footsteps.

Bale is best known for playing Batman in Christopher Nolan’s trilogy, but has many, many films under his belt in an impressive filmography. What do you think of Christian Bale as James Bond?

He’s getting there in age and at 45 would be a bit old by the time Daniel Craig is done with James Bond, but Gerry Butler would do a nice 007. He has that perpetual smirk, which gives the impression he’s a bad boy and the ladies love him.

The handsome Scot got in a bit of hot water when he joked about being cast as 007. However, franchise producer Barbara Broccoli quickly dismissed the rumors and insisted that Pierce Brosnan (James Bond at the time) was the man for the foreseeable future.

The Internet was in an uproar when the infamous Sony hack revealed emails suggesting Idris Elba was being eyed to play James Bond. For his fans, it was music to their ears.

If you’ve ever seen Elba in action, you know he can act and in a variety of roles. He does brooding very well as he proved in Luther and was all over the place in the action film Pacific Rim. So why not? Not how many would picture James Bond, but it’s all about the acting chops, right?

Why British Actors Are So Popular In The U.S.

Let’s face it, British actors are super popular in the U.S., but why? Is it the accent, the acting, the good looks. Probably a combination of all.

It seems like there’s one under every rock. British actors are a hot commodity lately and very few movies don’t include one nowadays. We can call it the British invasion part deux.

Remember the days of the Beatles and all those classic rock bands that came from the other side of the Atlantic? Americans couldn’t get enough of their music or looks and a similar phenomenon is happening with British actors.

Some theorize that there are not enough talented actors in the U.S. to go around, hence, British ones get the parts and so American audiences get lucky enough to see one in every other big movie that hits theaters.

If you look at all the major films that have come out in the past few years, invariably you will find a British actor cast, either in a major role or as a supporting actor. Benedict Cumberbatch has gone from unknown in the U.S. to a household name, as have others such as Eddie Redmayne (The Theory of Everything).

Series such as Downton Abbey and Sherlock draw in millions of viewers each week and keep them glued to their TVs. Same can be said about movies. Not only the dramas 12 Years a Slave (Cumberbatch), Gone Girl (Rosamund Pike) and Selma (David Oyelowo) starred British actors (all of whom got a nod from the Academy with nominations, but superhero blockbusters such as the Avengers (Tom Hiddleston) series and let’s not forget Man of Steel cast a Brit, Henry Cavill, to play the quintessential Superman.

The rise of British actors is nothing new and perhaps we just notice it now, more than before, but one thing is certain, with the use of computers the chance of one of them getting cast in a major film is bigger than ever. They don’t have to fly to a big studio in Los Angeles to audition, Skype will suffice, as many casting directors are accommodating to very busy schedules. Social media also helps the Brits put themselves out there and fans love that.

One thing that separates British actors from their American counterparts is their training. The majority of Brits are theater trained actors, some — like Luke Evans who is a rising star — come from musical theater. This gives them a completely different advantage and audiences notice. Americans are more rooted on emotion, while the Brits really study their characters.

British actors are certainly all the rave in America, but that is not to say we don’t have quality performers on this side of the Atlantic. Think Jennifer Lawrence, Jessica Chastain, Bradley Cooper, Amy Adams. We could go on and on, but for some reason we are really liking the British invasion. The British are coming, the British are coming!

Superman has stated he does not plan to join social media, as much as his fans would love him to and he may be saving the internet from crashing if he ever joins.

With the new Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, the follow up to his Man of Steel, coming next year, Henry is sure to be on the spotlight once again. In the meantime we can follow all his new projects including The Man From U.N.C.L.E. which opens in theaters later this summer on one of his many fan sites.

Ah, if only Mr. Darcy was on social media…but Matthew Macfadyen is simply not the type to self-promote and talk about himself on Twitter or Facebook. Even though he has suggested he does use a computer for personal reasons and has preteens, the social media bug hasn’t bitten the quiet Brit.

As with Cavill above, if Macfadyen would ever join any site, the hotness would surely melt many computer screens. In the meantime a good place to follow all the happenings in his career are our good friends @pandp2005 on Twitter. They will keep you up-to-date on everything Matthew Macfadyen.

This is one of THE hottest British actors at the moment and things for Ben are going great on the professional and personal level. He has starred in more films that we can keep up with (check his IMDB profile) and topped it all with an Oscar nomination for his role as Alan Turing in Imitation Game.

His fandom, who call themselves the “Cumberbitches,” would love nothing more than to have the object of their obsession on Twitter, but so far it hasn’t happened. He could also break the site with his presence. He is one to watch for sure, a rising star in every sense of the word.

EDDIE REDMAYNE

Here is another Brit who has made it to Hollywood and we are happy to have him. Eddie Redmayne — a film, television, and stage actor — has been steadily rising in notoriety on the big screen and he made a big splash in 2014.

Redmayne took home the Academy Award, Screen Actors Guild Award, BAFTA, and Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Leading Role for his performance as Stephen Hawking in The Theory of Everything. We expect to have many more memorable roles from Eddie in the future and maybe someday he will join Twitter.

Jon Snow in Game of Thrones used to have a Facebook account, but in 2014 decided to do away with it, because he was tired of mindlessly looking at people’s timelines. What?

Don’t hold your breath that Kit will join Twitter either, one of the reasons is the urge to tweet after too much drinking and he confessed, “I’m a (bleeping) idiot when I’m drunk.”

Can you imagine if Watson was on Twitter? Martin is one of the funniest British actors out there and we are sure he would be hilarious if he was on social media.

However, just like his Sherlock co-star, Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin has no presence on social media. What a waste, but we still love him.

Now JJ Feild is an interesting case. He is mostly known for his period drama roles in England, but not widely familiar to American audiences, until this year.

The very handsome American-born Brit has been acting since 1999 and has a long list of films under his belt, but people have paid more attention to his Major John Andre (who couldn’t?) in the AMC series, TURN: Washington’s Spies. If you haven’t met him, give him a chance, you won’t be disappointed.

The Sons of Anarchy hunk was at one point cast as Christian Grey, the sexy, twisted billionaire from Fifty Shades of Grey, but that didn’t come to pass.

Even though Charlie is super excited to be a big star, he really doesn’t care about the notoriety part of the business, as he told ET Online, “I don’t really engage in social media, and I don’t really watch the news or read newspapers so I haven’t been too cognizant of exactly what the reaction has been.”

The Divergent star was largely unknown before being cast opposite Shailene Woodley in the Veronica Roth film adaptations. Now millions know who he is.

“I don’t have it and I never will. Other actors I know are really good at it and they rock and roll it, but it’s not for me.” Theo told Flaunt magazine about Twitter and Facebook earlier this year. How sad for his fans.

Maybe it’s because he’s known to have a temper and oh, the things that come out of his mouth sometimes.
